Brief

Routers can forward data packets across a computer network, creating an
overlay inter-network that directs data traffic functions on the Internet
and connects two or more data lines from different networks. When a data
packet comes in on one of the lines, a router reads address information in
the packet to determine its ultimate destination, then uses information in
its routing table or routing policy to direct the packet to the next
network on its journey.

Environment

[return to top of this
report]

Juniper’s routers run on the company’s JUNOS Internet Software, a
standards-based routing OS developed specifically for the Internet.
Software supports Internet-scale routing protocols to provide system
management of both small and large networks. JUNOS enables the
configuration of the protocols, and monitoring of the router.

report]

Juniper Networks offers a variety of support programs to customers with
support service agreements, including:

  • Customer Support Center – For customers and partners
with annual service agreements. The program provides access to
    software, information, and Web services.

  • Knowledge Base – FAQs and technical support
content provided by JTAC engineers. This service is also for customers
    with annual service agreements.

  • Case Manager – To create, monitor, and edit
technical support cases. This service is for customers with annual
    service agreements.

  • Problem Report Search – Offers support issues or
defective products; for use by customers with annual service
    agreements.

Pricing

[return to top of this
report]

The products in Juniper’s routing portfolio are sold directly, as well as
through VARs and global distributors. Pricing information is configuration
dependent and available from sellers of the Juniper portfolio.

Competitors

[return to top of this
report]

Juniper’s primary router competition comes from Cisco’s extensive routing
portfolio, Alcatel-Lucent’s service, IP, and carrier Ethernet routers, HP
Networking routers, and Extreme Networks’ mobile backhaul routers.
