Accenture Announces Completion of Ariba Assets Acquisition

Accenture announced that it has closed the acquisition of the sourcing service and business process outsourcing (BPO) service assets of Ariba. The company says this acquisition will allow it to provide customers
with “deeper category expertise, enhanced highly scalable global sourcing service delivery operations, and proprietary sourcing databases, benchmarks and technologies.” About 160 Employees will also be transitioning to Accenture as part of the
transaction.

Boeing to Acquired CDM Technologies

Boeing announced its intention to buy CDM Technologies, a software company specializing in real-time transportation and logistics planning systems for the US military. Upon its acquisition, CDM Technologies, and its
130 employees, will be incorporated into Boeing’s Tapestry Solutions subsidiary. Boeing says it will use the acquired assets to expand its own logistics command and control offerings. The transaction is expected to close prior to the end of Boeing’s fourth
quarter. No financial terms were disclosed.

Cardinal Health to Acquire Pharaceutical Distributor Kinray for $1.3B

Cardinal Health announced that it plans to acquire Kinray, a pharmaceutical distributor service the New York metropolitan area, for a total of $1.3 billion in cash. The company says it will use the acquisition to
expand its ability to serve retail independent pharmacies in the northeastern US. Kinray’s annual sales were in excess of $3.5 billion, and it maintained a customer base of 2,000 pharmacies. Cardinal Health says the transaction should be completed by early
2011 at the latest.

EMC to Acquire Network Storage Company Isilon

Data management and storage company EMC announced it plans to acquire Isilon Systems for US $2.25 billion. Isilon Systems, based in Seattle, makes network storage products, called scale-out network attached storage, a
type of storage that can start small and grow quickly – reaching up to 10 petabytes – without disrupting a network.

Juniper to Acquire WLAN Specialist Trapeze Networks

Juniper Networks entered an agreement to acquire Trapeze Networks, which focuses on wireless local area network (WLAN) systems and management software. The acquisition
will allow Juniper to add WLAN infrastructure to its portfolio, presumably accelerating its growth in the enterprise market. The deal is valued at $152 million USD, and will close in the fourth quarter.

Mediacom Agrees to Buyout; Will Go Private

US cable operator Mediacom Communications‘ board has agreed to take the company private in a bid launched by its founder, CEO and largest shareholder, Rocco B. Commisso. Commisso agreed to raise his bid from
earlier this year by 46 percent to USD 8.75 per share in order to buy out minority shareholders. The offer is valued at $600 million and represents a 64 percent premium to the share price prior to his first proposal at the end of May. The deal is subject
to a majority of the minority shareholders accepting the offer and is expected to close in the first half of 2011, according to Mediacom’s press

Securitas Acquires Two Chicago Firms for $10.5 Million

Securitas has acquired security services companies Security Professionals and Security Management, based in Chicago. Enterprise value is estimated to 70 million SEK ($10.5 million USD). With these
acquisitions, Securitas expects to strengthen its position in this geographic market.

Swisscom Announces Success of Tender Offer for Fastweb Shares

Swisscom announced the success of its public tender offer for all outstanding shares of Fastweb. With the approval of this offer, Swisscom now owns 94.85% of Fastweb. On November 19, 2010 the company will pay EUR
18 for each share included in the offer, for a total purchase price of EUR 183 million. At this time Swisscom will also begin the process of delisting Fastweb from the Milan stock exchange.

Accenture Allies with BMC Software on Two Technology Agreements

Accenture announced that it is expanding its relationship with BMC Software to include a pair of new technology agreements. The first focuses on the joint development and
implementation of BMC Business Service Management (BSM) solutions. The joint BSM product is designed to be a single, integrated IT automation and management platform. The second agreement will see BMC utilizing Accenture personnel to increase the delivery
and implementation capabilities of its BMC’s Professional Services organization. No financial terms for the agreement were disclosed.

Capgemini Announces Expanded Relationship with Exalead

Capgemini announced that it has expanded its relationship with Exalead, a provider of search platforms and search-based applications, to a global level. The alliance between the two companies was previously
limited to France, where they have released numerous joint products. The new expansion will also include the offering of training and product demonstrations in the alliance’s new territories.

Dell to Extend HPC Technology Available to CERN

Dell announced it will provide technology to help CERN – the European consortium for nuclear research – expand high performance computing (HPC) access to several new research studies. Dell announced the HPC program for
CERN’s ATLAS experiment is being expanding to all Large Hadron Collider research experiments. The expanded program will be powered by Dell PowerEdge HPC technologies.

Frontier Partners with TAMCO to Help Businesses Upgrade

Frontier Communications announced that it is partnering with TAMCO (Telecommunications Asset Management Company), an independent financial solutions provider, to create Frontier Financial Solutions. The
program is designed to offer Frontier business customers flexible options for buying or incrementally upgrading voice, data, and video communications technologies.

Google Reaches Agreement with First French Publisher, Hachette Livre

Google revealed that it has reached a deal with French publisher Hachette Livre allowing it to scan thousands of out-of-print books for its Google Books service. This is the first company in France to allow this;
Google had faced unified opposition to the idea from all French publishers until this development. The deal does differ from Google’s previous book scanning contracts in that the power to choose which titles are available to be digitized remains with the
publisher, not with Google. Hachette Livre and Google will share the revenue derived from the sale of the resulting e-books, although the split remains unclear.

Telecom New Zealand Joins Vodafone on Rural Broadband Proposal

Telecom New Zealand teamed with Vodafone to jointly respond to the Rural Broadband Initiative (RBI), a project to build open access network infrastructure for the provision
of broadband in rural areas. The goal of the project is to provide fiber service to 97% of schools, and 80% of rural households within 6 years. The allied companies propose meeting this requirement by extending Telecom New Zealand’s existing fiber network
to include “key rural points of presence, including schools and hospitals,” as well increasing Vodafone’s infrastructure to further expand the new service areas wirelessly. A decision on how to proceed with the RBI project is expected from New Zealand’s
Ministry of Economic Development by Christmas.

AT&T, Alorica Launch Employment Program for Veterans with Disabilities

AT&T and contact center outsourcing company Alorica announced they will launch a new customer care program staffed entirely by US veterans with disabilities. The initiative, called
AloriCares, gives veterans an opportunity to provide customer care services for AT&T business customers. The pilot program will launch this month in Atlanta and will employ approximately 60 veterans by March, AT&T said.

Five9 Releases Second Version of Cloud-Based Call Center Platform

Call center software company Five9 has released the second generation of its Cloud Computing Platform for Call Centers. The platform provides a set of Five9 Cloud APIs based on Web services technology, enabling
integration with other applications and services, such as the pre-packaged integrations that Five9 provides for its partners Salesforce, NetSuite, RightNow, and Leads360. Version 2 of the platform includes a Reporting Web Services API, which can be used to
retrieve historical information for data warehousing and analytics and workforce management applications, among other applications. Also included in the platform is a Statistics Web Services API, providing real-time metrics for a variety of uses including
wallboard displays and agent-adherence monitoring.

Alcatel Creates Emergency Text Notification System

Alcatel-Lucent created Broadcast Message Center, a technology it says can interface with the service provider’s intelligent network, potentially allowing government agencies to notify millions of users with
targeted text messages within seconds – based on location – in the event of a national, state, or local emergency. The technology is similar to that used to send an emergency broadcast over cable TV. Broadcast Message Center – as seen in advance trials and
commercial deployments – will allow carriers to comply with emergency alerting standards in the US and Europe.

AT&T Absorbs Cellular One Customers in San Luis Obispo County

AT&T announced that, over the next year, it will perform network and service integration in the former Cellular One territory of San Luis Obispo County in California, and that Cellular One customers in that service area
are now AT&T subscribers. The transition follows AT&T’s acquisition of SLO Cellular, which had operated under the Cellular One brand. AT&T plans to roll out its mobile broadband service to the cell sites acquired from Cellular One and add an additional
layer of 850 MHz spectrum to the Cellular One sites.

Clearwire, Sprint Expand 4G Services to Sacramento

Broadband network provider Clearwire and carrier Sprint Nextel, which uses Clearwire’s network for its 4G service, have extended 4G availability to the Sacramento, California
metro area. The latest expansion covers nearly 1.2 million people.

AOL Completely Revamps Web Mail with Project Phoenix

AOL launched a new version of its Web-based mail client dubbed Project Phoenix. The new e-mail service has been completely redesigned,
and includes features such as a “Quick Bar" that lets users send short e-mails, instant messages, and Facebook updates; Smart View, which automatically loads information like maps and attached photos;

AWS Receives ISO 27001 Certification

Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced that it has received ISO 27001 certification. This certification includes its infrastructure, data centers, and services, including Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, Amazon VPC, and applies to
all regions worldwide. In order to earn the certification, AWS had to demonstrate a “a systematic and ongoing approach to managing sensitive company and customer information.” More information about this certification, and AWS’ other security compliance

AWS Launches Cluster GPU Instances for High-Performance Tasks

Amazon Web Services (AWS) launched Amazon Cluster GPU Instances, a new type of instance using numerous Graphics Processing Units in parallel to quickly process high-demand computations. Each instance includes two NVIDIA
Tesla M2050 GPUs, 22 GB of memory, and 33.5 EC2 Compute Units. Amazon says this solution will give an option to businesses that were previously unable to consider GPU-based computing options due to price. More information and sign-up documentation are

Verizon, Microsoft Expand Relationship for Cloud Collaboration

Verizon Business and Microsoft announced they are jointly delivering Verizon unified communications and collaboration capabilities with Microsoft Online Services, a
cloud-based solution designed specifically for small and medium-sized businesses. The new services are expected to be available this month to companies in the US.

AboveNet Expands Services in London Metro Market

Private optical network service provider AboveNet has expanded its Metro Ethernet and dynamic Core Wave services in the London metro market, complementing its UK network presence. Multinational customers that sign
up for the new London-based services will be able to get bandwidth in increments beginning at 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, and 10 Gbps connections. With this latest network expansion, AboveNet said it now connects to 35 data centers in the London metro
market and more than 400 data centers worldwide.

Alcatel to Provide Mobile Backhaul for America Movil Network

Alcatel-Lucent was selected by America Movil, a Latin American operator, to provide Internet Protocol / Multi-Protocol Label Switching based mobile backhaul to help support next generation mobile broadband
services in 11 Latin American countries. America Movil has deployed 3G networks throughout Latin America, and is now evolving them into what it says will be a more cost effective mobile transport network infrastructure, supporting current services while
enabling the delivery of new multimedia services and applications.

Alcatel Contracted for Seychelles Cable System

Alcatel-Lucent was commissioned by Seychelles Cable System to build the Seychelles East Africa System (SEAS), linking Victoria, Seychelles and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The SEAS will span over 1,900
kilometers, offering international connectivity for an archipelago of 115 Indian Ocean islands, including high speed, direct access to an optical fiber backbone. It will presumably support affordable Internet access and new broadband applications for
commerce, government services, and e-health. The contract is valued at $30 million USD. It also worked with Bezeq International to roll out a new 2,297 kilometer, high speed submarine cable system linking Tel Aviv, Israel to Italy and – via land route –
the rest of Europe.

Bell Canada Launches 42 Mbps HSPA+ Dual Cell Network, Cellular Modem

Bell Canada announced that it will be doubling its available mobile broadband speeds to 42 Mbps download with the advent of HSPA+ Dual Cell technology. The new network will be deployed in Toronto, and makes use of two
separate carriers’ 21 Mbps downlinks to provide its increased speeds. The service will launch alongside the Novatel Wireless U547 Turbo Stick, the company’s first device to support the new protocol. Bell Canada plans to continue to expand the HSPA+ Dual
Cell network following its launch to include additional locations in the Toronto area..

Cisco to Provide Connected Grid for Energy Australia.

Cisco Systems agreed to provide Connected Grid technology for Energy Australia, an energy network with more than three million Australian customers. The technology should help upgrade the network’s infrastructure
platform, also helping it deliver business critical services in its major substations. Cisco also deployed a secure information infrastructure for ING Bank Turkey, based on its Borderless Network architecture. ING Bank Turkey’s borderless network supports
a multiple channel business model by connecting 333 branches and 838 ATMs, along with 24-hour call centers and online banking facilities.

Cisco Announces Carrier Packet Transport Technology

Cisco Systems announced its Carrier Packet Transport (CPT) system, for extending support for IP services such as video, mobility, and cloud computing to the service provider transport infrastructure. According to
Cisco, CPT is the first platform to support standards based, Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) transport profile, which works with MPLS offered on Cisco routing products.

Ericsson to Roll Out 3G/HSPA for Aircel in India

Ericsson was awarded a contract to roll out a 3G / high-speed packet access (HSPA) network in six of Aircel’s 13 market areas in India. Potentially, the deployment will provide mobile broadband connectivity –
including radio, core, transmission, and other related services – to 100 million+ subscribers. Aircel is India’s top mobile operator. Aircel will offer services such as video telephony, mobile broadband, mobile TV, and video on demand.

Ericsson Delivers 3G Sites, Services for Mobile Broadband Network

Ericsson delivered more than 12,000 consolidated 3G sites for Mobile Broadband Network, Ltd., the network joint venture between Three and Everything Everywhere. The upgrade will presumably provide Orange and
T-Mobile – both run by Everything Everywhere in the UK – with extended network coverage and capacity. Ericsson is helping switch off more than 5,000 sites, and will serve as the primary service provider for the project, responsible for network design and
deployment, building of sites, capacity management, equipment swaps, and vital upgrades.

Huawei Deploys Softswitch Technology for Movistar Peru

Huawei Technologies deployed an advanced telecommunications computing architecture (ATCA)-based, code division multiple access (CDMA) mobile softswitch solution for communications firm Movistar Peru. The Huawei
softswitch – based on the open standard ATCA platform – will presumably help Movistar replace existing CDMA equipment with an all-IP core network that streamlines network construction, operation, and maintenance.

Juniper Unveils New T4000 Core Router Model

Juniper Networks introduced its T4000 core routing platform, which operates at 240G bps, per slot. It says the T4000 is the industry’s fastest and most dense IP/MPLS router, and is ideal for transport networks, the
service provider backbone, and major peering points, worldwide. Juniper also demonstrated a 100G core-to-edge network, powered by the technology.

Level 3 to Provide Dedicated Internet Access Service to New Museum

Level 3 announced that it has signed an agreement with the National Museum of American Jewish History – located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – to provide the museum with dedicated
Internet access (DIA) service in support of the museum’s new interactive digital exhibits and online content. The museum, which officially opens to the public November 26th, will use Level 3’s DIA service to send articles, photos, and videos from the new
facility to online hosting vendors. It will also be used by the museum to employ an e-commerce application to facilitate museum membership and charitable contributions.

Level 3 Launches Referral Program in Latin America

Level 3 announced that it has launched a new referral program in several Latin American markets that have seen a steady increase in demand for international bandwidth. The referral program – first introduced in Asia
in September, 2010 – is currently being rolled out to specific markets in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, and Panama. Referral providers in the program will market access to Level 3’s US and European network to Latin American
carriers.

NEC Installs Infrastructure, IP System for Chinese Hotel

NEC China installed a core infrastructure and IP phone system for Hotel Nikko Wuxi, in China. The system is based on NEC’s NEHOPS package, including login, guest management, sales management, and charge account systems
for hotels. It will presumably allow the hotel to offer extended guest services for billing, voicemail, and name-display calling.

NEC Launches 3G Femtocell for Indian Operators

NEC India launched what it is calling a ground-breaking 3G femtocell technology it contends will allow operators to offer high speed 3G mobile services to business and residential customers, within months. A trial
of NEC Femtocell technology is now in progress in India, as well as 15 other locations, worldwide, and NEC has eight contracts with mobile operators for system deployments, making up nearly a half a million femtocell devices.

Cisco Debuts New TelePresence, Video Collaboration Software

Cisco Systems unveiled new TelePresence and video collaboration tools it says helps make the technology more available through cloud services, as well as helping voice and video enabled offerings interoperate with the
Cisco Unified Communications Manager. Cisco says the technology provides a single, call control infrastructure, for voice and video, that can run across a single architecture.

HP Releases Visual Collaboration Conferencing Suite

Hewlett-Packard (HP) released new Visual Collaboration products – for both the desktop and conference room – it says will allow users to collaborate using high definition video. The solutions allow the user to run
videoconferencing over either their own network or a managed one, according to HP. The Visual Collaboration portfolio uses scalable video coding technology from Vidyo, per an agreement announced last June. Products include a desktop software client,
touchscreen software, and applications for integrating video into a multi-purpose conference room.

CSC Earns $387 Million Contract Extension from Textron

Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) signed a three-year extension to its global information technology (IT) outsourcing agreement with Textron. Under the extension, CSC will continue providing IT infrastructure
services, including management and support of Textron’s global data centers, technology help desk and network operations, mainframe and midrange systems, desktops, and engineering workstations. The extension is worth approximately $387 million, and extends
the contract through 2018.

Dell to Provide Services to Support US Coast Guard

Dell Services was named as the IT support provider to the US Coast Guard (USCG), as its agency becomes the first to transition to the new Department of Homeland Security
(DHS) headquarters. Dell Services unit Perot Systems Government Solutions was selected to provide IT field support services for critical mission and rescue systems, while Dell Services will provide support services for the entire USCG, including its new
DHS office, as part of a new five year, $92 million USD agreement. The DHS plans to consolidate many of its agency headquarters – dispersed throughout the greater Washington DC metro area – into one location, which should open in 2012 or 2013. Through its
subsidiary, Dell has been delivering mission critical support services to the USCG for more than 10 years.

Global Crossing Wins Expanded Services Contract with T-Systems

Global Crossing said it has expanded its services contract with T-Systems, a managed services division of Deutsche Telekom. Global
Crossing has been providing Private LAN Services, Private IP, and Clear Channels to T-Systems since 2003. Under a contract extension, it will provide redundant capacity of 34 Gigabits per second via its Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing network –
linking T-Systems’ three data centers in Sao Bernardo do Campo, Sao Paulo, and Barueri in Brazil.

Harris Corp Receives $77 Million Contract for Alabama Army Base

Harris Corp received a $77 million contract from the National Capital Region Contracting Center to provide IT infrastructure for the US Army Materiel Command (AMC) Headquarters at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville,
Alabama. Harris tasks will include the engineering, furnishing, installation, and testing of the command, control, communications, and computer IT (C4/IT) infrastructure for the base. The contract includes a one-year base period, and two one-year options,
during which it would provide operations, maintenance, and help-desk support.

Micro Focus Receives Contract for IRS Pilot Program

Micro Focus announced that it is the recipient of a software application development pilot program contract with the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The agreement will see Micro Focus developing software to
support the agency’s Automated Collection System. The company will also be providing its Mainframe Express Enterprise Edition (MFEEE) solution to the agency to host the necessary software. No financial terms for the contract were disclosed.

Unisys Signs Extension on City of Minneapolis IT Contract

Unisys announced that it has received an extension on its contract to provide IT outsourcing services to the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Under the terms of the new agreement Unisys will also begin providing
cloud-based e-mail management and managed security services, as well as taking over management of the city’s IT infrastructure. The new contract has an estimated value of $33 million, and expires in 2015.

Avaya Introduces Updated IP Office Software Suite

Avaya introduced IP Office v6.1, an update it says offers several new collaboration and customer service enhancements to improve worker productivity. It can be installed via a single DVD containing the open standards
based Linux operating system and key communications applications. Formerly, the OS and IP Office applications had to be installed via several sources and multiple DVDs.

Commission: China Hijacked Internet Traffic; Poses Major Threat

An annual report delivered to Congress by a commission on US-China relations accuses the Chinese government of sanctioning or sponsoring continued hacking attempts and computer exploits. In one instance, according to the report by the US-China Economic
and Security Review Commission (USCC), a Chinese telecom essentially highjacked the Internet for 18 minutes, redirecting all traffic through its servers and possibly “sniffing” data that included information from
.gov and .mil domains. China Telecom has denied the allegation. The USCC report said: “Recent high-profile, China-based computer exploitations continue to suggest some level of state support. Indicators
include the massive scale of these exploitations and the extensive intelligence and reconnaissance components.” The full report analyzes a range of “threats” posed by China; the
Internet being just one area of concern described by the commission.

VA: Two Major Data Breaches of Vet Information Last Month

NextGov reported that a Veterans Affairs Department employee lost an unencrypted personal thumb drive containing sensitive data, and that another employee printed out
information about veterans and brought it home. Both incidents were discussed by VA Chief Information Officer Roger Baker during a monthly briefing on data breaches to Congress.

HP Named Technology Provider for UN Conference

The Mexican government named Hewlett-Packard (HP) as the technology provider for the 2010 United Nations Climate Change Conference, which it will host November 29-December 10, 2010, through the Mexican Ministry of
Foreign Affairs. HP will focus on providing laptop and desktop PCs, data center and networking equipment, and other supplies.

Apple Joins Oracle in Announcing OpenJDK for Mac OS X

Apple and Oracle announced the OpenJDK project for Mac OS X, for which Apple will contribute most of the key components, tools,
and technology for a Java SE 7 implementation on Mac OS X. OpenJDK will make Apple Java technology available to open source developers. Apple also confirmed that Java SE 6 will be available for Mac OS X Snow Leopard and the upcoming release of Mac OS X
Lion. Java SE 7 and future versions of Java for Mac OS X will be available from Oracle.

Adobe Launches Acrobat X Software, SendNow Document Manager

Adobe announced the release of two new products in its Acrobat line: Adobe Acrobat X, and Adobe SendNow. Acrobat X’s new features include sharable automated tasks and routines, new layouts and visual themes, and new
levels of integration with Adobe’s own Photoshop and Microsoft‘s Sharepoint. New offering SendNow is an accompanying document exchange service at Acrobat.com. Users can
send, track, manage, and download documents through the service via a Web browser, or a built-in pane in the new Acrobat X software. Acrobat X Standard is available now in English, French, German, and Japanese for $299, while the pro version costs $449. A
free Adobe Reader X application is expected to be released later this month.

Cisco Debuts the Virtualization Experience Infrastructure

Cisco Systems announced Virtualization Experience Infrastructure (VXI), a desktop virtualization system focused on collaboration, borderless networking, and data center technologies. VXI integrates Cisco
Collaboration, Data Center Virtualization, and Borderless Networks architectures with desktop virtualization software and devices. Cisco also introduced two client devices for employing desktop virtualization, and a Cius business tablet. In conjunction
with the VXI announcement, Cisco and VMware announced a new desktop virtualization product that integrates Cisco’s Unified Computing System and Vmware’s View 4.5. The vendors said Cisco’s Desktop Virtualization

Tyco Electronics Extends its ADC Tender Offer Bid

Tyco Electronics extended the expiration of its tender offer to purchase the outstanding common shares of ADC, to December 8, 2010. As of November 15th, more than 85.6
million common shares (representing 88.26 percent) have been tendered and not withdrawn, at a rate of $12.75 USD per share. All other terms and conditions remain unchanged.

Agilent Technologies Posts Huge Growth in Profits

Agilent Technologies posted profits of $232 million USD and per-share earnings of $0.36 for its 2010 fiscal fourth quarter ended October 31, 2010, as, according to president and CEO Bill Sullivan, it experienced
“continued organic growth performance and strength, across all Agilent platforms and regions.” This was up from 2009 fiscal fourth quarter profits of $25 million, or $0.07 per share. Revenues were $1.58 billion, up 35 percent from 2009 fiscal fourth
quarter revenues. Excluding the effects of its acquisition of Varian and recent divestitures, its revenues were up just 26 percent. In the quarter, Agilent assumed Varian related integration costs of $43 million, intangible amortization of $30 million, and
restructuring charges of $18 million. It also recognized a tax benefit of $42 million and a $54 million gain from the closure of pre-Agilent spinoff income tax audits.

Cable&Wireless Posts Sliding Revenue, Impressive Profit Gains

Cable & Wireless reported its financial results for the half year ending September 30, 2010. Revenues fell 1.6% to GBP 1.12 billion, down from 2009/2010’s GBP 1.14 billion. Net profit, however, saw impressive growth,
jumping 71% to reach GBP 87 million. This raised earnings per share to 3.3p, or 65% higher than the 2p reported during the corresponding half of last year. Jim Marsh, Chief Executive Officer of Cable&Wireless said the quarter’s success hinged largely on
its contract to deliver the UK Government’s global overseas network, but that the company did suffer somewhat from a slow down of public sector business in the UK.

Coveo Announces Record Revenues in Q3 2010 Results

Coveo announced its results for the third quarter of 2010. The company boasted a 241% year-over-year increase in license revenue and a 123% year-over-year increase in total revenue, amounting to the company’s most
successful quarter since its founding. This was largely a result of the company signing 15 new contracts with numerous new customers, and expanding it existing contracts with businesses such as CA, ESPN, and Goodrich.

Gilat Revenue, Profit Up in Third Quarter

Gilat Satellite Networks posted increased revenue and profit for the third quarter, 2010. The Israel-based satellite provider said revenues for the third quarter of 2010 were $58.0 million compared to $54.6 million in
the same period of 2009. Net income for the third quarter of 2010 was $36.2 million or $0.86 per diluted share compared to a net income of $2.5 million, or $0.06 per diluted share in the third quarter of 2009. Gilat’s Chief Executive Officer and Chairman
of the Board, Amiram Levinberg, said he was pleased with the financial results and that the company’s recently-announced bid to acquire Wavestream Corporation will be “a significant milestone in implementing
our strategy to enter the defense market, specifically in the US.” The company expects to close the acquisition by the end of this year.

Intel Raises Quarterly Dividend

Intel’s chief executive, Paul Otellini, said the company is raising its quarterly payout for investors to 18 cents a share from 15.75 cents starting with the first quarter of 2011. Otellini said Intel “remains on track to have our best year ever and we

Bankrupt Nortel, Shorn of Most Operations, Reports Declining Revenues

Nortel Networks, which is operating under bankruptcy protection, said its overall financial performance in the third quarter of 2010 was impacted by the sale of substantially all of its businesses in prior quarters.
The company reported revenues in the third quarter of $85 million, with declines year over year in all segments and in all regions. Its gross margin was negative 3.5 percent in the third quarter, a decrease of 49.6 percentage points from the year ago
quarter.

Rogers Agrees to Repurchase 1.3 Million Outstanding Class B Shares

Rogers signed an agreement with an “arm’s-length” third-party seller to purchase and cancel a total of 1.3 million share of its outstanding Class B Non-Voting stock. This represents about 0.29% of the total Class B
shares currently outstanding. The purchase will cost Rogers about $44.5 million.

Siemens Touts Largest Operating Profit in History

Siemens announced it generated the largest operating profit in company history, as earnings from all of its sectors rose to 7.8 billion EUR ($10.6 billion USD) for the 2010 fiscal year ended September 30, 2010. It
attributed the jump in profits to its renewable energy unit -and operations in emerging market countries – as it continues to emerge from a struggling economy. Net earnings were 4.1 billion EUR. Revenues were 76 billion EUR. For the fourth quarter, net
losses were 467 million EUR, up from 2009 fiscal fourth quarter profits of 1.06 billion EUR.

XO Revenue Up, Profit Down in Third Quarter

XO Communications reported that its third quarter, 2010 revenue was US $385.7 million, an increase of $3.7 million, or 1 percent, compared to Q3 2009. Third quarter profit, however, was down 35%, or $6.6 million, at
$12.4 million, compared to net income of $19.0 million in the third quarter of 2009. XO’s broadband offerings generated $228.8 million in revenue, an increase of $25.0 million, or 12 percent, from Q3 2009. Fueling the broadband revenue increase was
continued growth in its IP-VPN, IP Flex, Ethernet, and Dedicated Internet Access service offerings.

AT&T Wins Okay for Selling Cloud Computing Services to Government

AT&T Government Solutions has been awarded a Blanket Purchase Agreement for a suite of cloud computing products and services for government agencies. The US
General Services Administration announced the award. AT&T is now eligible to provide US federal government agencies its cloud-based Infrastructure as a Service products and services via Apps.gov – a new online purchasing portal that allows agencies to
purchase services without a formal request for proposal, helping condense procurement cycles.

AT&T Wins Call Center Contract from Social Security Administration

AT&T Government Solutions said it has won a contract to deploy the “CARE (Citizens Access Routing Enterprise) through 2020” call center solution for the US Social
Security Administration (SSA). The award will permit SSA to issue individual task orders to AT&T worth up to $286 million for an Internet Protocol-based interactive voice response automation and contact call center
solution through SSA’s national toll-free number. The Social Security Administration provides retirement, disability, and survivors’ benefits through a nationwide, decentralized network of 1,500 offices, card centers, processing centers, and other
offices.

CSC Awarded $230 Million Task Order from Office of Medicare

Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) announced that it has received a $230 million task order from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Office of Clinical Standards and Quality. CSC’s task will be to
migrate key IT systems to a new service oriented architecture (SOA). This includes the office’s Standard Data Processing System, Value Based Purchasing system, and the End Stage Renal Disease application groups. The agreement has a six-month base period,

IBM received a contract from the Central Norway Regional Health Authority to provide information technology (IT) support to all hospitals in Norway. IBM’s goals will include improve the coordination and reporting of

Verizon to Issue Free Medical ID Credentials that Meet US Requirements

Verizon Business announced it will begin issuing in January medical identity credentials to 2.3 million US physicians, physicians assistants, and nurse practitioners – at no charge. The company said the move
will enable US health care professionals meet federal requirements contained in the 2009 Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, which calls for the use of strong identity credentials when accessing and sharing patient
information electronically, beginning in mid-2011. With the credentials, health care professions will be able to receive digital health information via the Verizon Medical Data Exchange using a secure inbox accessed from a new Web-based physician portal,
the Healthcare Provider Portal. These multi-factored credentials will be designed to meet the Level 3 authentication requirements created by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Verizon said. The credentials can also be used to universally
access health IT applications and platforms, such as electronic medical records, e-prescribing services, and health information exchanges, including the Verizon Health Information Exchange. At present, in the US, there is no universal means of issuing
multi-factored credentials to health care professionals for use in accessing any health care system, database, or application.

GSMA Launches Embedded SIM Initiative with Major Mobile Carriers

Industry group GSMA announced the formation of a task force of mobile operators to explore the development of an embedded programmable SIM (subscriber identity module) that can be remotely activated. The initiative
is expected to enable the design of new form factors for mobile communications. GSMA said it will also speed the development of M2M (machine-to-machines services) by making it easier to bring mobile broadband to such devices such as cameras, MP3 players,
navigation devices, e-readers, and smart meters. The GSMA-led task force comprises representatives from AT&T, China Mobile, Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom Orange, KT, NTT DOCOMO, SK Telecom, Telecom
Italia
, Telefonica, Verizon Wireless, Vodafone, and other companies. The group will work in cooperation with major SIM
producers. GSMA said the task force will analyze market requirements and deliver a technical solution as an evolution of the current SIM provisioning mechanisms.

Amazon Launches Amazon Studios, Calls for Scripts

Amazon announced the launch of Amazon Studios, a new business designed to attract filmmakers and screenwriters from around the world. This new venture offers creators an opportunity to submit full-length movie

Cisco Says It Leads Competitors in IPv6 Certifications

Cisco said it now leads its competitors in terms of total US Government IPv6 (USGv6) certifications for routers, switches and firewalls. In addition to
certifying its network equipment as USGv6-compliant, Cisco announced it is introducing new features in its ASR 1000 Series routers and professional services to help customers transitioning to IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6). Countries and enterprises
are now transitioning from IPv6 from IPv4, which is rapidly running out of address space. Cisco also said it is the first technology vendor to be certified by the IPv6 Forum to offer IPv6 education and certification
for information technology professionals.

Google Launches New Tools for Holiday Shoppers

Google announced a number of changes being made to its product search solutions. The company has added local stock level listings, with 70 brick and mortar retailers signed up; a new Google Shopper mobile app with
support for new filters; and two new features on their shopping site, “popular products,” and “aisles.” The last additions listed are based on the layout of physical stores, with searches producing similar items and information that a consumer would
normally find adjacent to their potential purchase on a store’s shelves. All features will be rolled out over the coming weeks.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced that it has approved the String Evaluation for an IDN (Internationalized Domain Name) ccTLD (country code Top Level Domain) for the country of
Morocco. This certifies that the IDN has met all the criteria of the ccTLD Fast Track Process and is ready to pass onto the String Delegation phase, the final step before public availability. This represents the 22nd country to pass the String Evaluation

ICANN Publishes Proposed Final New gTLD Applicant Guidebook

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced the publication of its Proposed Final New gTLD Applicant Guidebook.
Highlights of the changes made in this edition of the book include eliminating restrictions of Registrar cross-ownership, updating the string requirements section per anticipated RFC 1123 revisions, eliminating the complete defense to Community Objections,
and explaining the ICANN Board’s role in the new gTLD process. The ICANN board will take comments on this draft of the Guidebook at its December 10 meeting, after which it may approve the item for widespread publication, or ask for more changes.

Pew Teams with FOSI to Study Teens’ Online Lives

The Pew Internet & American Life Project announced a new study it will be conducting in collaboration with the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI). The joint project will
study the online behavior of teenagers, including everything from their comfort level with using technology, to their social interactions, with a special focus on support groups and cyber-bullying. Pew and Fosi’s goal is to create a profile to help
parents, educators, and policymakers better understand what teenagers are experiencing in their online lives. The study will begin this month, with results expected by November 2011.

Wikipepedia Starts 2010 Donation Drive with $16 Million Goal

Wikipedia parent organization the Wikimedia Foundation announced the launch of its annual donation drive. This year’s goal is $16 million, which the foundation says will go towards its annual operational costs of
$20.4 million. This goal doubles the $8 million the site received in donations during its 2009 drive. The effort will run until January 2011. Donations are being accepted via credit card and PayPal.

Yahoo Announces Slate of New Products, Content Offers

Yahoo unveiled a lineup of new product and content offerings. The new releases include an updated beta for Yahoo Messenger; the launch of the Yahoo Contributor Network, a user-submitted content feed; Zynga
integration, which includes the ability to play games over several Yahoo properties; Twitter integration, which provides users with timelines and the ability to post tweets from within the Yahoo network of sites; as well as the launch of several

Bell Canada Launches Samsung Galaxy Tab

Bell Canada announced its launch of the Samsung Galaxy tab. The tablet computer will ship with direct access to live, and on-demand TV content via the Bell Tablet TV & Radio service. The service will cost $10 per month
for 10 hours of TV service, including data costs, and $8 per month for unlimited access to 70 commercial-free radio stations. The device will also include free access to more than 1,000 Wi-Fi hotspots around the country. The Galaxy Tab is available for
$599.95 after a postpaid bill credit, or for $649.95 on a prepaid plan.

HP Unveils Upcoming DreamScreen400 Table-Top Portal

Swedish Court Orders Detention of WikiLeaks Founder

Reuters reported that a Swedish court has ordered the detention of Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, on suspicion of rape and other sexual crimes, allegations he denies.
Assange’s lawyer, Bjorn Hurtig, told journalists he expected a European arrest warrant would be issued for Assange, who has visited Sweden in the past, and that he would probably appeal. He declined to answer questions as to the whereabouts of Assange, an
Australian citizen.

Google Launches Long-Awaited Google Voice App for iPhone

Google announced the release of an official Google Voice application for the Apple iPhone. Although users have been able to access Google Voice service via an HTML5 Web app, this is the first time iPhone owners have
been given access to a first-party standalone application for Google Voice. The application includes all of the service’s major features, including discounted international calls, free text messages to US numbers, voicemail transcription, and the option to
display your Google Voice phone number to recipients when making a phone call. Features specific to the iPhone version of the app include push notification of new messages, and outgoing calls placed via Direct Access Numbers, which decrease the connection time to one similar to a normal phone call. The official Google Voice app is available now as a free
download from the Apple App store for all iPhones running iOS version 3.1 or later. A Google Voice account is required for use.

Hughes Launches Machine to Machine Broadband Service

Hughes announced the launch of a new machine to machine (M2M) broadband service. The new offering is designed to allow utility, energy, and other industries to use remotely-controlled equipment as part of their

Hackers Launch Attack on Cell Phones in China

InformationWeek reported that a “zombie” virus has attacked one million cell phones in China, automatically sending out text messages, which is costing victims a combined 2 million yuan ($300,000 USD) per
day. The virus, which was hidden in fake antivirus software, transmits each phone’s SIM card information back to the hackers, who then have control over the phone.

McAfee: Malware Soars, Spam Dips in Q3

Daily malware growth has reached its highest levels, with an average of 60,000 new pieces of malware identified per day, according to McAfee‘s Threats Report: Third Quarter 2010. However, spam volume decreased in the
quarter. The report discovered that one of the most sophisticated pieces of malware that plagued users in Q3 was the Zeus botnet, the malware that caused US small
businesses to lose $70 million at the hands of Ukrainian cybercriminals.

Symantec Now Confident Stuxnet Targeting Iranian Facility

Symantec announced in a blog post that it has updated its comprehensive Stuxnet Dossier with help from a Dutch expert in automation technologies. Calling its latest research a “breakthrough,” Symantec now
believes it has proof the Stuxnet worm requires the targeted industrial control system to have frequency converter drives from at least one of two specific vendors, one headquartered in Finland and the other in Tehran, Iran. Further, Symantec concluded,
“Stuxnet is a threat targeting a specific industrial control system likely in Iran, such as a gas pipeline or power plant. The ultimate goal of Stuxnet is to sabotage that facility by reprogramming programmable logic controllers to operate as the attackers
intend them to, most likely out of their specified boundaries.”

Google Launches Mobile Document Editor for iOS, Android

Google announced an update for its Google Docs software allowing users to edit documents from a mobile browser. Logging into the Google Docs site from a supported mobile device will give users the option to open
documents with the mobile editor Web application. This features similar functionality to the desktop version of the application, but is currently only limited to editing text documents. Google says it plans to expand the service to include the mobile

Major Carriers Form Joint Mobile Commerce Network Venture

Three of the four largest US wireless carriers – AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA, and Verizon Wireless – announced the
formation of a joint venture chartered with building ISIS, a mobile commerce network. Sprint Nextel is not part of the joint venture. ISIS’ initial focus will be on building a mobile payment network that enables
mobile phones to make point-of-sale purchases. ISIS will use smartphone and near-field communication technology, and plans to introduce service in selected geographic markets over the next 18 months. Michael Abbott has been named as Chief Executive Officer
of ISIS. Formerly with GE Capital, Abbott is a veteran financial services executive with extensive experience in the payment and technology industries, according to the companies’ press release. The founding members of the ISIS joint venture collectively provide wireless services to more than 200 million consumers who
will have access to ISIS, which is working with Discover Financial Services’ payment network to develop a mobile payment infrastructure for the joint venture. Barclaycard US, part of Barclays PLC, is expected to be the first issuer on the network, offering
multiple mobile payment products.

AT&T announced a new service – called MobileIron Virtual Smartphone Platform (VSP) from AT&T – designed to help enterprises better manage and secure smartphones running on multiple operating systems within their

Germany Raises Terror Threat Level

The Christian Scientist Monitor reported that hours after Germany announced measures to combat a heightened threat level, airport police in Namibia discovered a suitcase with batteries, wires, and a ticking clock
apparently headed to Munich. Ultimately, however, no explosives were found in the bag, and the final destination for the luggage was not clear. Earlier in the week, Germany’s Interior Minister announced the government had received information about a
looming terror attack, adding that intelligence about the threat came from a “foreign partner,” reportedly the US. The New York Times reported November 19th that German authorities have concluded the suspicious package was designed to test airport
security.

TSA, DHS Defend More Intrusive Airport Security Measures

In response to a growing outcry from privacy groups, pilots’ unions, and individuals, the US Department of Homeland Security and Transportation Security Agency urged public “patience”
and stood by new security measures at US airports – specifically, “enhanced” pat-downs and the use of imaging systems. Despite this, some changes already have been made to the TSA’s enhanced-screening plan. The TSA said that children age 12 and under will
not have to undergo the more intensive pat-downs and would instead be given a “modified” search if security personnel believe they need additional screening. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano also said she is open to adjustments of the
procedures. US government officials are reportedly considering exempting flight crews from the enhanced procedures in lieu of biometric identification measures that might include both finger print and retina scans.

Report Cites “Major Shortcomings” in DHS Bio Risk Assessment

A new National Research Council report finds “several major shortcomings” in a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) assessment of risks associated with operating the proposed
National Bio- and Agro-Defense Facility in Manhattan, Kansas. The laboratory would study dangerous foreign animal diseases, including the highly contagious foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), and fatal diseases that can be transmitted between animals and people.
Based on the DHS risk assessment reviewed by the Research Council committee, there is nearly a 70 percent chance that a release of FMD could result in an infection outside the laboratory, impacting the economy up to $50 billion, but the Research Council
report says the risks and costs of a pathogen being accidently released from the facility could be significantly higher than indicated by the assessment.

Hughes Signs $13 Million Reseller Agreement with PrimeNet in Brazil

Hughes announced that its Brazilian unit has signed a $13 million contract with PrimeNet, a value-added reseller (VARs) of satellite services in the country. Hughes believes the deal will bring as many as 1,000 new
customers to its satellite Internet services by March 2011. The contract has a duration of 60 months, and will focus on servicing the Center-West, North, and Northeast regions of Brazil.

Yahoo Announces Beta for Improved Search Assistant

Yahoo announced the launch of a beta for a new version of its Search Assistant technology. Yahoo says the updated tool provides users with answers to many queries within the Search Assistant drop down itself, and

Microsoft has updated two security bulletins from November 9, one deemed important and one considered critical. One update regarding
an issue with Office clarifies that PowerPoint 2002 and 2003 customers must insall the Office update in MS10-87 to be protected from the vulnerability described in CVE-2010-2573. The critical update also pertains to Office and has corrected the severity table and vulnerability section.

Dell announced its new Data Protection | Encryption, endpoint encryption technology for protecting endpoint devices it says serve as the “front door” for sensitive information. The file-based technology secures
protected data on a laptop, desktop, or other external media, in the event it is lost or stolen. It includes reporting functionality for detecting which devices need encryption, enforcing policies, and auditing encryption states. The reporting feature also
provides confirmation that endpoints are secured, regardless of user, device, or location.

Encryption Used for Compliance More than Breaches: Symantec

Symantec‘s 2010 Annual Study: US Enterprise Encryption Trends reveals that regulatory compliance has surpassed data breach mitigation as the top reason why organizations deploy encryption technologies. The report also found that solutions involving encryption have seen the biggest increase in IT budget earmarks over the past year. In the past 12 months, 88 percent
of organizations surveyed had at least one data breach, up three percent from 2009, but the report found that 90 percent of organizations have completed at least one encryption project on average.

Progress Software Releases Drivers for SQL Server 2008 Data Warehouse

Progress Software announced the availability of database drivers for the recently announced Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse. The Progress DataDirect drivers allow customers to use Unix, Linux,
and Java-based applications on their SQL Server 2008 R2 Parallel Data Warehouse installations. The company says this will allow its customers to use existing software installations on the new server without requiring any additional replacing or upgrading.

SAIC Signs $42 Million EPA Contract for Hosting Services

SAIC received a task order to provide hosting services to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Computer Center, its primary data center. The National Computer Center handles the collection, processing,

IBM signed a collaboration agreement with IIT Madras and IIT Kharagpur to jointly develop technologies to increase the efficiency and resilience of smart power grids. The participants plan on using systems that analyze

Facebook Launches New Messaging Platform

Facebook announced a new service dubbed "Messages." The new platform attempts to unify all of a user’s communications into a single inbox, including e-mail, SMS, and instant messaging. All Facebook users
will be able to visit a single page where these types of messages will be organized – by their author, not by what type of message they originated as. Users will also be given an @facebook email address, and the ability to filter their messages based on
the friend status of the sender, and other criteria. The social networking giant says the new features will be rolled out gradually over the coming months, and users will receive an invitation when the service is available to them. More information about
Messages is available from the feature’s online tour. Within just a few days of the Facebook announcement, security firm Sophos warned that Facebook’s new
online messaging service leaves users more vulnerable to identity theft by cybercriminals.

MySpace Deepens Facebook Integration

MySpace announced its users can now log in to their Facebook accounts through their MySpace page. Doing so will port the likes and interests they have listed on their Facebook
profiles to MySpace, where they will get a stream of entertainment content based on these interests. MySpace users have already been able to sync their status updates to their Facebook profiles. MySpace has essentially given up competing as a social
network versus Facebook, “repurposing” MySpace as an entertainment portal.

New Mobile Social Network Limits Users to 50 Friends

A new mobile social network has launched that focuses on developing a close circle, and limited number, of “friends.” The start-up, called Path, accomplishes this by limiting the number of people any user can
share a connection with to 50. Path has dubbed itself a “personal network," and says its more "intimate" environment allows users to feel more comfortable being themselves and expressing their true feelings. The network offers features such
as geotagging, location-based updates, and the ability to “tag things” in uploaded photos. Path is currently available exclusively for the Apple iPhone, as an app, or by visiting its site via the iPhone’s browser.

Twitter announced the launch of notifications for @mentions. This new service will alert users every time someone they follow mentions them in a tweet. The new notifications will initially be available via SMS and the

Twitter announced a pair of new features for its micro-blogging site. The first is the addition of 13 new countries and 6 new cities to the service’s “trending topics” listings. This is a constantly updated list of what
people are talking about on Twitter based on geographic locations. The social networking site says these new locations were drawn from some of their fastest growing markets. The second announcement revealed that the company is now offering Google produced machine translations of tweets posted in foreign languages. These translations will appear automatically in the details pane on tweets in a language other than the browser’s native tongue.

Acer International to Upgrade Taiwan Supercomputer

Acer International was awarded a contract by Taiwan’s National Center of High Performance Computing (NCHC), to help overhaul its supercomputer in Taichung, Taiwan. The supercomputer – expected
to place in the top 50 of the Top500 fastest supercomputers list – will offer high performance computing services for research and industrial customers. It will be completed in March 2011. Acer – in conjunction with the Asia Pacific’s Acer e-Enabling Data
Center – will provide the complete system integration, encompassing servers, storage, switches, software, and construction of NCHC high density data centers, with more than 600 Acer servers.

Microsoft Launches Lync Unified Communications Software

Microsoft launched Lync, the next generation of its Office Communications Server. The updated platform supports instant messaging,
tele-presence, audio, video, Web-conferencing, and voice, all running on a single user interface designed to be interoperable with Microsoft Office, Microsoft SharePoint, and Microsoft Exchange. Microsoft also announced that more than 70 devices optimized
for the Lync platform are already in the works, including a variety of IP phones, headsets, speakerphones, and Web cams. A free trial version is available from the Lync Web site, while business customers can purchase Lync beginning December 1.

Polycom announced it will be one of the first companies to support Microsoft’s new communication server, Lync. Polycom has added support for Lync Server 2010 to both its Polycom HDX series telepresence systems and
