Accenture Acquires RiskControl, Adds it to Risk Management Line

Accenture announced that it has acquired Brazilian risk management software provider RiskControl. The acquisition includes all staff and products, including the company’s self-titled software platform, which
manages risk at company-wide levels. The RiskControl software was mostly used to provide risk assessment for balance sheet exposure to market-based risk factors by financial service institutions. The new software offerings will be added to Accenture’s
recent launch of a new risk management service line.

Google Purchases Remail, Kills its iPhone App

CNet reported that Google has acquired Remail, maker of an iPhone application which could search the entire text of a user’s emails, including the body. Immediately after its
purchase, Google cut all ties between Remail and the Apple App Store. The article goes on to speculate that Google may be planning to integrate the Remail technology into a future update to its own mobile operating
system, Android. As part of the transaction, Remail founder Gabor Cselle, a former Google employee himself, will be rejoining the company. No financial terms were announced.

IBM Acquires Telecom Network Automation Provider Intelliden

IBM announced that it has acquired Intelliden, a provider of network automation software to telecommunications companies. The company designed automation software to eliminate the prevalence of manual configurations of
telecom networks causing downtime. IBM will continue to offer the company’s products through its Tivoli Software group. No financial terms for the acquisition were announced.

Micron Acquires Numonyx

Micron Technology and Numonyx Holdings announced that the companies have signed a definitive agreement under which Micron has agreed to acquire privately-held Numonyx in an all-stock transaction valuing Numonyx at
approximately $1.27 billion USD.

Telecom Italia Completes Sale of HanseNet to Telefonica

Telecom Italia announced that it has officially completed its sale of HanseNet Telekommunikation GmbH. Telecom Italia agreed to sell the company to Telefonica via its
subsidiary Telefonica Deutschland GmbH in an agreement signed on December 3, 2009. The transaction was completed upon receipt of regulatory approval.

Microsoft Signs Strategic Agreement with Qatar Telecom

Microsoft signed a strategic alliance agreement with Qatar Telecom (Qtel) which encompasses integrated cloud-based services, software applications, mobile services and devices all running on Qtel’s network. The
agreement will see the two companies participating in joint sales and marketing, solutions collaboration, and corporate citizenship initiatives. Qtel hopes that the partnership will allow it to expand its portfolio, and revamp the image it presents to its
subscribers.

Accenture and SAS to Offer Joint Predictive Analytics Services

Accenture and SAS announced that they plan to jointly enter the predictive analytics solution business. The joint effort, which will be called Accenture SAS Analytics Group,
plans on investing in industry specific solutions, starting with products for the financial services, healthcare and public service sectors. The alliance will also open showcases for its services in Chicago, London, Milan and Shanghai, with other locations
possible.

Bell Labs to Serve as Advisor for KPN Network Upgrade

Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs was selected by KPN – a European service provider – to serve as an advisor partner for its new network and business transformation program. Bell Labs will
work with KPN to further develop strategic technology roadmaps, for its network transformation. Alcatel, as part of an existing relationship, currently supports KPN in managing its traffic growth.

Motive, WDSGlobal to Deliver Mobile Device Management

Motive – a division of Alcatel-Lucent – and WDSGlobal announced a marketing and development initiative, through which they will deliver a mobile device management product, for
automating and remotely managing customer care processes. The companies claim it covers a mobile device’s lifecycle, from activation and configuration, to firmware and application updates.

CSC Signs Strategic Partnership with Rail Software Provider Qnamic AG

Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) announced that it has formed a strategic alliance with Qnamic AG, a supplier of software to the rail industry. The alliance will be leveraging Qnamic’s RailOpt, a software suite that
is able to plan and manage resources for multiple types of rail systems, to customers in Switzerland, and globally.

SAP and Open Text Expand Partnership to Include New DAM Solution

SAP and Open Text announced that they have expanded their strategic relationship to include Open Text Digital Asset Management (DAM), part of the Open Text ECM Suite. The new
agreement will allow SAP to sell the new product under the title SAP Digital Asset Management application by Open Text. SAP said the DAM software will be added to its existing line of marketing resource management (MRM)
and intellectual property management (IPM) products.

Toshiba Looking to Establish T&D Joint Venture in India

Toshiba India is in discussions with Bharat Heavy Electricals, to establish a joint venture company, to focus on transmission and distribution (T&D) equipment, in India. The
companies plan to launch the venture in June. The companies estimate India’s T&D business will grow to approximately 400 billion JPY ($4.4 billion USD), by 2015.

Verizon Wireless, Skype Announce Partnership

Verizon Wireless and Skype announced a strategic relationship that will bring the Skype calling service to Verizon Wireless smartphones in March. The new Skype mobile
product will let Verizon Wireless customers with data plans make and receive unlimited Skype-to-Skype voice calls to any Skype user around the globe; call international phone numbers at competitive Skype Out calling rates; send and receive instant messages
to other Skype users; and have the ability to see friends’ online presence.

CSC Licenses Two Insurance Software Titles to Ohio National

CSC announced that Ohio National Financial Services has signed an agreement to license two of its insurance software products: Management Accelerator, and Insurance Optics Business Analytics. Management Accelerator can
individually manage policies, or simultaneously handle a large number of policy changes, while Insurance Optics allows for the company to examine business results and the driving forces behind them. The newly licensed products will be integrated into the
company’s VANTAGE-ONE administration software, which is already in place at Ohio National.

Microfocus Announces New 3-in-1 Application Management Offering

Microfocus announced the launch of its new Modernization Workbench 3.1. The company is touting the new release as “3 products in 1.” The software includes all three of the products included in the company’s
Application Portfolio Management (APM) line. The company claims there are multiple benefits to customers who choose to use the unified product, including a single point of management and assessment, as well as better language coverage, and improved support
for mass changes.

Sybase Launches IPX 365 Solution for Fixed and Mobile Networks

Sybase announced the release of its new Sybase IPX 365 solution. The new suite of IP eXchange (IPX) services was designed to serve both fixed and mobile network operators. The suite includes support for data roaming,
messaging hubs, IPX Voice, and signaling.

New Agreement Allows for Integration of AuthenTec Technology

AuthenTec and Jabil Circuit, an electronic manufacturing service company, launched a joint development agreement to deliver next-generation technology offerings to the mobile phone market. The first mobile
offering is the Smart Navi-Key, which combines AuthenTec’s smart sensor technology with a Sunarrow durable keymat in a keypad built by Jabil/Green Point. It can be integrated into smart phones, PDAs and a range of other mobile devices.

AuthenTec Launches Smart Sensor for Smartphones

AuthenTec announced the availability of its AES1750, a smart sensor that offers multiple touch-powered functions. The AES1750 is now available in production quantities and has already been designed into multiple
smartphone models that are scheduled to begin shipping this year.

Simulated Attack Demonstrates US Is Unprepared for the Real Thing

The Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC), a nonprofit think tank, hosted Cyber ShockWave, a simulated cyber attack on the United States, on Tuesday in Washington DC. The purpose of this exercise was to
demonstrate how the government would develop a real-time response to a large-scale cyber crisis affecting much of the nation. The simulation was created by former CIA Director General Michael Hayden and the BPC’s National
Security Preparedness Group, and was envisioned as a one-day attack in the disguise of an email containing a virus that crippled the power grid, electronic energy trading platforms, and rendered smartphones useless. Officials participating in the event
consisted of former White House, Cabinet, and national security officials and were selected to see how they would handle such a catastrophe should it actually occur. Overall, the BPC said that the group did not
fare well and was ill-prepared to handle the simulated attack.

GAO: Better Congressional Directives Needed for Disaster Recovery

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) recently reviewed how well Congress has handled disaster recovery assistance to
homeowners affected by the 2005 Gulf Coast hurricanes. The key objectives for the GAO was to determine how well federal programs aided the needs of affected homeowners and rental property owners along with the challenges these individuals have faced when
applying for federal assistance. The GAO recommended that in the future, Congress needs to provide more specific direction to states regarding the allocation of disaster-related assistance for homeowners and rental property owners.

Report: Critical Infrastructures More Likely to Be Cybercrime Targets

ScanSafe issued its Annual Global Threat Report, revealing that critical infrastructure such as energy, pharmaceutical and government assets are more than twice as likely to
be targeted by cybercriminals than other organizations. The report is based on an analysis of more than a trillion Web requests processed in 2009 by the ScanSafe Threat Center. The research determines that organizations that harness the most valuable
intellectual data are encountering Web malware with much greater frequency than other verticals.

Aging Infrastructures, Disaster Recovery Tops on IT’s To-Do List

A recent report from Stratus Technologies has found that more IT organizations are planning to invest in hardware and software that will boost their aging infrastructures. The survey discovered that the top three
spending priorities for IT organizations in 2010 will be upgrading server hardware, disaster recovery, and server virtualization. Stratus polled 650 IT professionals in 18 countries for this report.

Alcatel Deploys Mobile Services for Mauritius Telecom

Alcatel-Lucent deployed mobile, multimedia services for Mauritius Telecom, a fixed and mobile telecommunications operator, in Mauritius. The services are powered by Alcatel’s Mobile Interactive TV, for
launching dedicated content, sharing a common software platform. Customers can access program information, watching multimedia content, on demand. Alcatel-Lucent will manage network design, integration, installation, commissioning, and the design of end
user interfaces.

Bell Canada Launches Remote PVR Service for Bell TV Subscribers

Bell Canada announced the launch of its remote PVR service. The new tool allows Bell TV subscribers to remotely program and manage recordings from any Bell Mobility mobile phone, or any Internet-enabled PC. The service
also includes such features as remote disk space management, and the ability to use mobile phones as a remote control for the customer’s set-top box.

Bell Canada Seeks Injunction Against Rogers Ads

Bell Canada announced that it has filed an injunction with the Court of Queen’s Bench in Fredericton, New Brunswick over what it calls “false and misleading claims” its competitor Rogers has made about its internet
service, which it has promoted as the “fastest and most reliable”. Bell Counters with the argument that Bell Aliant’s FibreOP offers speeds which exceed those available with Rogers. Furthermore, Bell is asserting that Rogers’ claim of being the most
reliable is “simply not true, based on how that term is commonly understood.” The company says that it made multiple attempts to settle the issue with Rogers itself prior to taking legal action.

Sprint Launches Free Wi-Fi at JFK International

Sprint has launched free 3G wireless service at New York’s JFK International Airport (Terminal 8) using the MiFi 2200 by Novatel Wireless, a mobile hotspot device. The hotspot comprises a lounge equipped with chairs,
power outlets, a workstation, and MiFi units. A passerby can jump on the Sprint network by connecting a Wi-Fi enabled device to one of the MiFi signals.

Sybase Creates Advanced IP Centre of Excellence

Sybase announced the launch of its Sybase Advanced IP Centre of Excellence. The Centre is a platform for mobile network operators to test, refine, and validate their IP messaging implementations. The new offering
uses the company’s Advanced IP Messaging Server (AIMS) platform to test such services as live address books, geo-location based rewards, and 4G messaging and payment services. The company is promoting the new offering as an efficient method of testing new
products and services to companies about to being undertake 4g deployments.

T-Mobile USA to Launch HTC HD2 this Spring

T-Mobile USA announced that it will offer the HTC HD2 smartphone exclusively to US customers, beginning this Spring. The HD2 sports a high-resolution 4.3-inch capacitive touch
display, the Qualcomm Snapdragon process, and HTC Sense. It will come pre-loaded with applications providing access to eBooks, movies, television programs, and other entertainment.

Telstra Launches Dual Carrier HSPA+ Network

Telstra announced the release of a new mobile broadband service upgrade. The so-called Next G HSPA+ network with Dual Carrier technology allows for two simultaneous links to be maintained between the users’ devices
and the carrier network. The company claims the network is currently capable of peak network downlink speeds of 42Mbps, with the possibility of that number rising to 84Mbps once Telstra implements HSPA+ Dual Carrier plus MIMO technology during 2011. It
cautions that consumers speeds never match peak numbers, but still claims that practical tests have shown the new network matching early 4G speed tests. The first device capable of utilizing this network will be a Sierra Wireless modem, which will be
available later this year.

Verizon Wireless Says It is On Track to Launch 4G Wireless Service

Verizon Wireless is on track to offer its 4G LTE wireless service later this year, according to Dick Lynch, an executive vice president and Chief Techology Officer for Verizon Communications. He made the
announcement at the Mobile World Congress being held this week in Barcelona, Spain.

Google Adds Cloud-Based Clipboard to Google Docs

Google announced that a new clipboard feature has been added to its Google Docs suite. The new addition functions similarly to the copy and paste options found on any computer. The difference is that the item which
has been copied, and therefore stored on the clipboard, is stored in the cloud. It can then be pasted into any documents, spreadsheets or presentations from any browser, on any Web-enabled computer. The only limitation on the clipboard is the fact that
items stored on it expire after one month.

Google Analytics Added to US Government Approved Apps.gov

Google announced that its Google Analytics service has been added to the apps.gov Web site. The site, run by the General Services Administration, hosts a listing of
government-approved cloud computing applications. This paves the way for Google Analytics to be adopted by any US government agencies or services.

HP Unveils New Scalable Cloud Design Services

Hewlett-Packard (HP) introduced its new Cloud Design Service – based on its cloud consulting services portfolio – for helping businesses and government agencies adopt a cloud infrastructure. Through this service, HP will
work with clients to try to help them understand their requirements, then create a customized cloud infrastructure design blueprint and implementation plan.

Open Xchange Signs Agreement with Bull to Offer Email and Goupware

Open Xchange announced that it has signed an agreement with the European IT service company Bull. The agreement will allow Bull to offer Open-Xchange mail and groupware to its German customers. The company
will offer two version of the service, a hosted solution, or an on premises solution.

ADC to Provide Antennas for Saudi Telecom Mobile Network

ADC is deploying InterReach Fusion distributed antenna systems for Saudi Telecom‘s mobile network, at the King Abdul Aziz Endowment, in Mecca. The installation will bring new mobile
services to several buildings on the complex, including HSDPA and HSUPA voice and data services, by March. SNS-Batco Telecom will serve as telecom systems integrator. In all, the property will include a hotel, several restaurants, a shopping center,
convention center, and residential towers.

Alcatel to Deploy IP/MPLS Mobile Backhaul for MTS-Ukraine

Alcatel-Lucent will provide IP/MPLS mobile backhaul, for MTS-Ukraine. Alcatel claims the deployment will allow MTS to support next generation, mobile broadband services, and offer premium IP services to
mobile customers. MTS-Ukraine plans to transition to a mobile transport network, which will support current services and deliver new multimedia services and applications.

Alcatel-Lucent, Sequans to Collaborate on LTE Technology

Alcatel-Lucent and Sequans Communications are collaborating on longterm evolution (LTE) technology, for TD-LTE network operators in Asia and Europe, planning to offer
services at 2.6GHz. It will be used in operator trials, later in 2010. Alcatel is generally considered a worldwide leader in LTE, with 40 customer trials secured, to date.

Alcatel, Telefonica Complete 4G LTE Calls in Latin America

Alcatel-Lucent reported that it completed the first 4G calls, on the framework of longterm evolution (LTE) lab tests, being conducted by Telefonica, in Latin America.
The first services were delivered in Telefonica’s labs, using Alcatel end to end LTE equipment, and devices from LG Electronics Worldwide. A second, field test phase is planned, in which LTE’s coverage capacity will be assessed.

Alcatel Selected to Deploy IMS Trial for China Telecom

Alcatel-Lucent was recently selected, by China Telecom to deploy IMS trial networks, in Shanghai and Shandong province. The trial will help China Telecom build a
next generation, core infrastructure network, Alcatel claims. The news followed Alcatel’s announcement that it achieved record speeds for China Mobile’s time division duplex – longterm evolution (TD-LTE) trial, installed to support the 2010 World Expo, in
Shanghai, in May. During TD-LTE testing, the companies recognized peak rates of more than 80M bps, downstream.

Alcatel, Orange Complete LTE Broadband Trial Phase

Alcatel-Lucent and Orange completed the first phase of its longterm evolution (LTE) mobile broadband technology trial, with a live network in France. According to the
companies, this trial allows Orange to develop insight into the capability of LTE technology, and evaluate how it performs in a real, live network environment. Orange is also evaluating the introduction of new multimedia applications over an LTE mobile
network, such as VoIP, steered by IMS and streaming video.

Alcatel-Lucent to Participate in Telecom Italia LTE Trial Program

Alcatel-Lucent signed an agreement, with Telecom Italia, to engage in its new technology development program, including a 4G longterm evolution (LTE) wireless broadband technology trial. The program was
established to allow Telecom Italia to assess the evolution of the mobile radio access network, in preparation of offer extended, next generation services.

Alcatel-Lucent to Provide Equipment for MTS-Ukraine LTE Trial

Alcatel-Lucent will provide IP/MPLS based, mobile backhaul solutions to support MTS Ukraine‘s next generation, mobile broadband services, and other IP premium services,
for mobile customers. MTS-Ukraine plans to use the upgrade to serve as the basis for longterm evolution, as well as existing CDMA EVDO technology. Alcatel will also provide professional services, including integration and testing.

AMS-IX Installs Brocade Switches, Routers

Brocade announced that one of the world’s biggest Internet Exchange Points (IXP), the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX), has selected Brocade to deliver a new MPLS/VPLS network topology to increase network
stability and resilience for its 350 clients. The exchange has installed Brocade NetIron MLX series switches and routers to meet the growing demand for bandwidth. AMS-IX is one of the largest Internet hubs worldwide, where more than 850 Gigabits per
second of Internet traffic is exchanged.

Ericsson Contracted to Expand Icenet NDMA Network

Ericsson signed a contract to expand Icenet‘s CDMA network, and offer network rollout and related support services, in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. This network provides mobile
broadband services throughout Scandinavia, for machine to machine applications, while also presumably providing communications for the public safety sector. Ericsson acquired its CDMA business from Nortel, in late 2009, at which time it added 2,000
employees, worldwide.

Huawei Demonstrates 600M-bps LTE Data Rates

Huawei Technologies demonstrated data download speeds of up to 600M bps, using its longterm evolution (LTE) advanced system. Huawei claims this is 20X faster than existing, commercial 3G networks, and can be useful in
addressing heavy, bandwidth requirements. To date, Huawei has deployed 60 LTE networks, including lab trials, field trials, and commercial networks, and has made more than 3,300 LTE contributions to the 3GPP group.

Huawei Unveils Triple Mode LTE Modem

Huawei Technologies unveiled a triple mode, longterm evolution (LTE) modem – the E398 – that is compatible with LTE, UMTS, and GSM network standards. Huawei designed it to access high speed, LTE technology, while
offering switching to the other standards.

Motorola Launches Radios that Support GSM, LTE Carriers

Motorola USA‘s networks business launched new CTU8multi series radios, which support GSM, Evolved EDGE, and longterm evolution capabilities. Motorola claims they were designed to support up to eight GSM
carriers, longterm evolution (LTE) carriers, or any combination of the two. The radios can be used either rackmount, or as remote radio units. The unit also announced the WBR 700 series, LTE eNodeB, an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing
product.

Cisco Systems pledged support for “Your Country, Your Call,” an initiative to help foster economic renewal, in Ireland. Cisco donated collaboration products – including Web applications and WebEx conferencing – as
part of its commitment, to help officials collaborate, worldwide, via yourcountrycall.com.

Polycom Announces New Video Conferencing Codec

Polycom announced the creation of a new H.264 High Profile codec. The company says this new technology will halve the amount of bandwidth required for both high definition and standard definition video conferencing,
with requirements as low as 512 kbps, and 128 kbps respectively. Polycom is claiming the new development will increase the widespread adoption of video conferencing solutions because it will dramatically decrease bandwidth costs.

Unisys Wins Support Contract for Western Australian Public Trustee

Unisys announced that its Australian subsidiary received a contract from the West Australian Public Trustee to provide support and enhancements for its Management Accounting Trust Environment (MATE) application. The
Public Trustee handles such matters as Will and Enduring Power of Attorney drafting, deceased estate administration, executor support, trust management services, and financial administration for the citizens of Western Australia. The contract has a base
duration of 3 years, with two annual extension options. No financial terms were discussed.

Alcatel to Provide Outsourced Operations for VIVACOM

Alcatel-Lucent announced a five year partnership with VIVACOM, to focus on upgrading its fixed and mobile network in Bulgaria. Effective March 1st, VIVACOM will
outsource its end to end, network operations to Alcatel, to help allow it to concentrate on its core business. The companies will also develop new, user services. Approximately 3,000 VIVACOM staff will join Alcatel, under the plan.

Capgemini Takes over Smart Meter Contract in Sweden

Capgemini announced that it has taken over a contract to manage 860,000 smart meters owned by Fortum Distribution AB in Sweden. The deal will be handled via the company’s Managed Business Services usage-based
pricing model, and will be part of Capgemini’s soon to be announced Smart Energy Services offerings. The contract has a duration of 10 years.

Keane Signs IT Service Contract with US Courts Administrative Office

Keane has signed an IT services Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) with the Administrative Office of the United States Courts (AO). The contract will see Keane providing product
management support to the AO and its Office of Information Technology (OIT), as well as assisting OIT and other divisions with continuing project reviews and quality assessment efforts. The contract has a base period of one year, and four annual renewal
options.

Convergys announced that it has created a new joint offering with Microsoft. The new product, dubbed Convergys Smart Communications Suite powered by Microsoft, will be a
comprehensive business support system (BSS). The new suite uses Microsoft’s Dynamics CRM to integrate the company’s commonly used tools into the BSS usage process. Convergys claims the new offering will feature
low-cost licensing options, as well as low cost of maintenance when it launches.

Adobe Announces Air for Mobile, Flash 10.1 Beta Distribution

Adobe made two major announcements at this year’s Mobile World Conference. The company announced that it is working on a mobile version of its Adobe Air runtime environment, and that it has released a beta of version
10.1 of its Flash platform to developers. The company is targeting the mobile version of Air as a method for developers to create cross-platform applications, which are based on a Web-app architecture. This would reduce the need for companies to develop
multiple versions of each of their products for the numerous mobile operating systems. The Air platform is expected to be available on the for the Android operating system this year. Meanwhile, The company’s release of a beta version of Flash 10.1 is an
indication that it may be on track for its updated goal of releasing the new product to multiple platforms in the first half of 2010.

Alcatel Announces Developer Platform Based on the Cloud

Alcatel-Lucent announced a cloud based, developer platform, for providing tools to build, test, manage, and distribute applications, across the network, including TV, broadband Internet, and mobile. The

BT Announces Mixed Financials for Q4 and Year-End 2009

BT announced its Q4 and full year 2009 financial results. The quarter saw the company reporting a revenue of 1.22 billion pounds. This is up 4% from its total of 932 million pounds from the same quarter of 2008. The
company saw a dramatic 158% jump in profit, which rose from 81 million pounds in 2008, to 209 million pounds. This raised the company’s earnings per share to 2.3p for the quarter, up from 0.8p during the same quarter of 2008, a 188% increase. The company
saw much less positive year-over-year numbers in its year-end report. It reported 15.5 billion pounds in revenues, down 2% from the 15.9 pounds it reported in 2008. BT also reported a 29% drop in yearly profits from 1.07
billion pounds in 2008 to 756 million pounds in 2009. Despite this change, the company reports its annual earnings per share as exactly the same as its 2008 total of 10.6p. The company claims that this year represents only a step in the right direction,
and that investors can expect further improvements driven by the proliferation of its fiber network.

Capgemini Posts Negative Audited Financial Results for 2009

Capgemini posted its year-end audited results for 2009. The company saw a revenue of 8.3 billion pounds, a relatively minor decrease from the $8.7 billion it posted in 2008. The company’s operating profit was
also down to 333 million pounds, from 586 million in 2008. Following with the previous results, profits were also down significantly. The company pulled in only 178 million, after seeing a profit of 451 million in 2008.

HP’s First Quarter Profits Improve 25 Percent

Hewlett-Packard reported profits of $2.3 billion USD for the 2010 fiscal first quarter, ended January 31, 2010, fueled by PC sales that improved by 26 percent, year over year. Earnings per share were $0.96. Profits were
up 25 percent, from 2009 fiscal first quarter earnings of $1.9 billion, or $0.75 per share. Revenues were $31.2 billion, up eight percent from 2009 fiscal first quarter revenues of $28.8 billion.

PAETEC Posts Much Lower Losses in Q4 and Year-End 2009 Results

PAETEC reported its financial results for the fourth quarter and full-year 2009. The company reported a quarterly revenue of $390 million, down slightly from the $400 million it posted in the same quarter of 2008.
The company also reported a net loss of $2.3 million, which is actually a vast improvement over the $114.4 million it lost during the same period in 2008. The year saw PAETEC report a revenue of $1.58 billion, up slightly from 2008’s total of $1.57
billion. Similar to the quarter, it reported a net loss of $28.6 million, still, this represents a massive improvement when compared to the $487.8 million the company lost in 2008.

Qwest Communications announced its fourth quarter and full year 2010 financial results. For the quarter, the company saw an operating revenue of $2.99 billion, a 9.7 percent drop from the $3.3 billion it reported in
the same quarter of 2008. Also in the quarter, the company saw a net income of $108 million, a more significant drop of 38 percent from its Q4 2008 total of $177 million. This resulted in a 40 percent drop in diluted earnings per share from $0.10 in 2008
to $0.06 in 2009. The company’s year-end results showed less dramatic changes. Qwest reported its 2009 operating revenue at $12.3 billion, representing an 8.6 percent drop from 2008. On the positive side, the company reported a yearly net income of $662
million, a 1.5 percent increase over the previous year’s total of 652 million. This also caused a tiny uptick in annual diluted earnings per share from $0.37 in 2008, to $0.38 in 2009. The company’s growth was centered in its business and consumer data

Tandberg Announces Positive 4th Quarter and Full-Year Financials

Tandberg announced its financial results for the fourth quarter and full year 2009. The company’s quarterly revenues totaled $270 million, a significant jump from the $225.5 reported during the same period in the
prior year. Operating Profit was also up for the quarter to $60 million, increased from its Q4 2008 profit of $52.8 million. For the full year, the company’s revenue totaled $902.6 million compared to the $808.8 million it reported for 2008. Tandberg’s
year end Operating profit was 193.8 MUSD for 2009 an increase from the total of 176.7 MUSD for 2008.

Telecom New Zealand Reports Poor Q3 Results, Blames Economic Slowdown

Telecom New Zealand reported its financial results for the third quarter of its fiscal year, ending December 31, 2009. The company reported a revenue of NZ$1.3 billion, down by 6.5% from Q3 2008’s NZ$1.4 Billion.
It’s net earnings were also down 23.8% to NZ$ 80 million, from NZ$105 million. This resulted in a 33.3 % drop in earnings per share to NZ$6 from NZ$4. The company is saying as much as NZ$ 10 million in losses is the results of the economic slow down of the
New Zealand economy.

Teradata Announces Q4 and Annual Financials for 2009

Teradata announced its financial results for the fourth quarter, and full year 2009. The quarter saw the company post a total revenue of $496 million, holding very steady with Q4 2008’s $493 million. The company
also reported a net income of $84 million for its last quarter, an increase over the $79 million it reported during the same period last year. This number translated to $0.49 in earnings per share, up from $0.45 per share in Q4 2008. The company’s year-end
results were primarily positive. It reported a revenue of $1.7 billion, down slightly from $1.76 billion in 2008. The company saw a modest rise in net income from $250 million in 2008 to $254 million in 2009. This caused the year-end earnings per share to
jump to $1.48 from 2008’s $1.40. The company claims that the above total for earnings per share represents a record number for both quarterly and year-end results.

United Online Reports Improved Q4 and 2009 Financial Results

United Online has posted its financial results for the fourth quarter and full-year 2009. The last quarter saw the company post a total revenue of $249.5 million. A slight drop of 3% from Q4 2008’s $256.2. On a
more positive note, the company saw a 12% jump in quarterly net income, going from $28.6 million in the last quarter of 2008, to $31.9 million in its most recent quarter. This caused a 9% increase in earnings per share to $0.37, up from $0.34 during the
same period of the prior year. The company also saw improvement in its year-end results. It posted a revenue of $990 million, up significantly from the $669 million it posted in 2008. The positive trend continued with its net income, which rose to $70
million, a drastic increase from the $94.6 million net loss it suffered in 2008. This also caused a reversal of fortunes in United Online’s year-over-year earnings per share, which it posted at $0.78, after seeing a steep $1.33 loss per share in 2008.

SAIC Signs Simulator Development Contract with US Army

Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) signed a contract with the US Army’s Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) to develop
simulators for the model CH-47 and UH-60 helicopters. The contract was signed under the Non-rated Crew Member Manned Module (NCM3) program. The new simulators will be designed to integrate with the Army’s existing Aviation Combined Arms Tactical Trainer
(AVCATT) simulators. The contract has a 28 month base period, a single variant options, and a value over $12 million if all options are exercised.

LGS Named Subcontractor for Lockheed Martin’s DARPA Contract

Alcatel’s LGS Innovations subsidiary was named a subcontractor on the Lockheed Martin team, recently awarded a contract from the US Defense Advanced Research
Projects Agency (DARPA). The $31 million USD DARPA Military Network Protocol contract calls for Lockheed Martin to develop new cyber-assurance procedures, to improve security and provide bandwidth allocation and policy based priorities. The LGS Internet
Research Department will work as a part of the Lockheed Martin’s Infrastructure team, to define, design, develop, and test common elements used in the DARPA solution.

Military Contractors Celebrate Successful Laser Test

Boeing, Northrop Grumman, and Lockheed Martin all celebrated the successful testing of their jointly produced Airborne Laser
Testbed (ALTB). The directed energy weapon, which was fired from a modified Boeing 747-400F airplane, destroyed a ballistic missile during the missile’s “boost” phase. The accomplishment represents both the first time a laser-based weapon has destroyed an
in-flight missile, and the first time any system whatsoever has destroyed a missile during its boost phase.

Boeing Delivers First of 12 New GPS Satellites to Air Force

Boeing announced that it has delivered the first Global Positioning System (GPS) IIF satellite to Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. The delivery marks the first step in the launch of 12 satellites which
will join the current GPS constellation in orbit. The additional satellites will provide increased navigational accuracy, greater signal strength, and improved jamming resistance in hostile environments.

General Dynamics Gets Additional $26 Million for Submarine Contract

General Dynamics announced that it has been awarded a $26.3 million contract modification by the US Navy for the Common Missile Compartment project. The developed compartments are slated for installation on
the US Ohio class of submarine, as well as the UK’s Successor ballistic-missile submarines. The original contract was signed in December of 2008. The contract has a total maximum value of $630 million if all options are exercised.

General Dynamics Earns US Army MC4 Task Order

General Dynamics received a task order to support the US Army’s Program Executive Office, Enterprise Information Systems (PEO EIS), Medical Communications for Combat Casualty Care (MC4) Product Management
Office (PMO). The contract calls for the company to support all stages of MC4 operations. MC4 provides for the establishment of electronic health records, and enhanced situational awareness for Army tactical forces. The order could earn the company as much
as $154 million over 5 years if all options are exercised.

Northrop Grumman Completes Flight Testing on VADER System

Northrop Grumman announced that it has successfully completed flight testing for its Vehicle and Dismount Exploitation Radar (VADER) system. The system is designed to be installed on long endurance unmanned
surveillance aircraft where it can provide ground troops with Ground Moving Target Indicator (GMTI) data and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery. The system is unique in its ability to track both vehicle targets, and targets on foot.

Northrop Grumman Earns Navy Lifecycle Management Contract

Northrop Grumman has signed a contract with the US Navy to provide lifecycle support for the US Navy’s USS San Antonio (LPD 17) class of amphibious transport dock ships. The $41.3 million contract includes
provisions for multiple areas of engineering, fleet modernization program planning, maintenance, supply chain management, and training for select LPD 17-class shipboard systems. The contract also has a number of options which could potentially raise its
value to $249.4 million if they are all executed.

DIRECTV Reports Declining Results for Q4 and 2009

DIRECTV announced its financial results for the last quarter and full year 2009. The company posted a quarterly revenue of $5.9 billion, up from $5.3 billion in Q4 2008. On the negative side, the company suffered a
net loss of $32 million, a drastic decline from the net income of $332 million it reported during the same period last year. This resulted in a $0.03 loss per share, also a steep decrease from the earnings per share of $0.32 it reported in the last quarter
of 2008. Year-end results were relatively similar for the company. It once again saw a boost in revenue to $21.6 billion, up from the $19.7 billion it reported in 2008. Net income was down for the year, though not as dramatically. DIRECTV saw a net income of $942 million. This represented a painful drop from its 2008 net income of $1.5 billion. The decline resulted in the company posting an earnings per share total of $0.95 for the year, down from
$1.37 during 2008.

Bell Canada Launches New System of Wound Care Teleassistance Units

Bell Canada announced that it would be implementing a mobile teleassistance system at the R‚seau universitaire int‚gr‚ de sant‚ (RUIS) de l’Universit‚ de Sherbrooke healthcare facility. The so called Frontline
Communicator allows for doctors to remotely view and communicate with other healthcare professionals to better determine a care plan for wounded patients. The system is expected to help those patients that live in remote areas to receive improved care,
without the need to be transferred to larger medical centers. The company plans on deploying a total of 73 similar systems over the next 20 months to various facilities.

Patient Care Technology Systems (PCTS) announced that it has established a wholly-owned subsidiary named Patient Care Technology Systems Limited in the United Kingdom. PCTS will offer its RTLS-enabled automatic

Adobe Joins LiMo Foundation, Adds Flash to its Resources

Adobe announced that it has joined the LiMo foundation. The foundation was formed in 2007 to create a unified, Linux-based, development platform for mobile devices. The group includes industry giants such as LG,
Samsung, and Verizon Wireless. The addition of Adobe to the group allows it to add the company’s Flash platform to the LiMo development platform. The alliance plans to begin offering software development kits for local
and Web-based applications starting in the second quarter of 2010.

GSMA Launches OneAPI Initiative in Canada

Industry group GSMA announced the launch of a commercial pilot in Canada as part of its OneAPI initiative, working with Canada’s largest mobile operators Bell Mobility, Rogers Communications, and TELUS to
demonstrate the benefits of providing developers with standardized application programming interfaces (APIs) for mobile networks. Through the OneAPI initiative, GSMA said it is promoting the adoption of a common, lightweight, and Web-friendly set of APIs
to provide application developers with easy access to mobile operator network capabilities. The pilot in Canada marks the first time developers are able to gain commercial access to the network assets of multiple operators, from a single gateway, using
OneAPI.

Teliasonera Announces Formation of the Wholesale Application Community

Teliasonera announced the formation of the Wholesale Applications Community. The new 24 member industry group has the goal of developing an open platform for delivering applications to all mobile phone users. The
combined customer base of the members of the alliance totals over 3 billion. It has also earned the support of the GSMA, Samsung, LG Electronics, and Sony Ericsson. The members hope to create an eco-system that allows for easier creation and distribution
of mobile applications. It claims such a system would benefit everyone from carriers, to developers, and end-users. The initial plan is to use the JIL and OMTP BONDI standards to develop a single platform within 12 months. The alliance also plans on
eventually working with the World Wide Web Consortium to finalize the planned standard for widespread use.
